Adelaide break Victory run
15 October 2006 | 20:03 - AAP
Adelaide United inflicted A-League leader Melbourne Victory's first defeat of the season with a late goal for a 1-0 win at Telstra Dome on Sunday night.
Midfielder Greg Owens netted the winner in the 82nd minute after striker Nathan Burns had shredded the Victory's defence, then slid a perfect pass for Owens to net.
But the match may have a disciplinary sequel after United coach John Kosmina was sent from the sideline after tempers boiled over late in the match.
Kosmina and Victory skipper Kevin Muscat had a sideline set-to after Muscat had tried to retrieve a ball from under the Adelaide coach's chair, sending him sprawling to the turf.
Kosmina got up and grabbed Muscat by the throat, to be separated by players and officials.
Melbourne had arguably the two best chances of the match ahead of Owens' winner in an exciting free-flowing match.
Adelaide defender Matthew Kemp's goal line clearance in the first half denied Danny Allsopp, who was loitering in the box as an Archie Thompson cross approached.
Then Adelaide goalkeeper Robert Bajic was forced into a great save to deny Muscat's low free-kick in the 67th minute.
The match was also another success for the Victory's move to Telstra Dome, with more than 32,000 attending.
