Roar swoop for Mori
22 November 2006 | 15:59 - SBS
Damian Mori will spend the rest of the season with the Queensland Roar after signing for the A-League club.
Mori, who had been playing on short-term deals with the Central Coast Mariners, has scored six goals in eight A-League games this season, and should add some fire-power to a misfiring Roar outfit.
"Damian will be a new face in the squad and despite his 36 years he's still a very good player indeed. This signing will give the rest of the boys a boost at a time when we need it," said new Queensland coach Frank Farina.
"He's a proven goal-scorer at this level and of course he's the all-time leading goal-scorer for Australia. He was in great form during his short spell with the Central Coast Mariners and we're hoping he can reproduce that form for us."
"He's fit, he's strong and he's an out-and-out striker; that's what we're after."
Mori, who looks set to make his debut for the club against Sydney FC on Friday night at Aussie Stadium, says the move to Queensland happened quickly.
"I got the call from Frank (Farina) yesterday (Tuesday) and my situation with the Mariners was such that I was unable to sign for any longer," he said.
"It was great to hear from him because for me it's all about playing games. I love playing football and I want to play finals football. Signing for Queensland will hopefully give me the chance to do that."
"There's still eight games to go before the finals and I'm very confident that we can turn the season around from here."
Queensland has scored just once in its last five games.
