Wang stunner saves Shaanxi
22 June 2009 | 07:56 - PA Sport
Wang Yun's superb free-kick just before half-time has secured Shaanxi Baorong a 1-1 draw against Hangzhou Lucheng in the Chinese Super League.
The home side made the better start at Shaanxi Stadium and Brazilian striker Vicente De Paula Neto saw his angled shot denied by a spectacular save from goalkeeper Jiang Bo.
The home side then wasted a string of chances and Cai Chuchuan made Shaanxi pay when he gave Hangzhou the lead after 28 minutes as he beat two players before firing the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.
The visitors almost doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when Yang Fusheng's long-range effort flew just over the bar.
Shaanxi levelled one minute before the break when former Vitesse Arnhem player Yu Hai earned a free-kick 30 yards out and Wang curled the ball home.
Vicente had the ball in the net midway through the second half but he had strayed offside while Yu missed a great chance in stoppage-time as the unmarked midfielder failed to connect with Li Yan's cross just yards out.
"We dominated the game but the strikers lacked the clinical touch to convert the scoring chances," said Shaanxi coach Cheng Yaodong.
"We must double our efforts from now on as we are facing stronger teams in the domestic league."
Hangzhou boss Zhou Shuian said: "We showed our scrappy style in defence today. I am satisfied with the result."
