Coleman walks out on Sociedad

Coach Chris Coleman and his assistant Steve Kean quit Spanish second division Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

 

"We are quitting as coaches of Real Sociedad and we are leaving the posts with much sadness as it is a fantastic club," former Wales defender Coleman told a news conference.

"Things have changed with the arrival of (new president Inaki) Badiola because there are now two different ways of seeing the club and of working."

Coleman's decision came a day after sports director and former Wales assistant manager Salva Iriarte was dismissed.

Former Fulham manager Coleman took over in June after Sociedad had been relegated from the Primera Liga.

He has led them to fifth in the table, one point off the promotion places.

Coleman's position was thrown into doubt when president Maria de la Pena, who brought him to San Sebastian, stepped down in November to pave the way for a new election. He had said he would go if she left.

Badiola won the January 3 election and a week ago Coleman said he would stay having been convinced by the players, in particular, to continue.
