Knights steal Banks
14 October 2006 | 12:40 - SBS
New Zealand Knights have signed All Whites striker Campbell Banks as cover for the injured Dani Rodrigues.
Rodrigues 'has been suffering from damage to his anterior cruciate ligament', the club said in a media release, so Knights boss Paul Nevin has swooped for 26-year-old Banks, who has been training with the club for nearly a month.
"As a part of our commitment to helping nurture and develop local players the Knights have had an open-door policy with regards players training and trialling with the club," Nevin said.
"This is a two-way street with the players learning more about the day-in, day-out demands of the professional environment and the club gets to see them over a longer period of time and in different situations."
"Campbell has effectively been a part of the Knights set up for some time and will have little or no trouble becoming a playing member of the squad."
Banks has been included in the squad to take on the Newcastle United Jets on Saturday night at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
