Farina signs Roar deal

Queensland Roar coach Frank Farina has signed a two-year contract with the A-League club.

The former Socceroos coach had been repeatedly linked with a move to Sydney FC in recent weeks, but Roar CEO Lawrence Oudendyk said 'recent speculation can now be consigned to the past' after securing Farina's signature.

"Following all the recent rumour and innuendo in the media regarding Frank Farina's position of Head Coach at Queensland Roar, we can confirm today that as expected Frank has formalised his agreement with the club," Oudendyk said.

"As we have previously on stated numerous occasions, Frank Farina will lead Queensland Roar for at least the next two years and we look forward to a successful era under his management. Frank Farina is fully committed to the club and that commitment is reciprocal."

Farina said he was happy to have his future settled and to bring an end to the speculation.

"The speculation, and it was nothing more than that, has been both distracting and disappointing and I am delighted to bring it to a conclusion today," Farina said.

"Whenever there is a vacant coaching job in Australian football, or a coach is brought under media scrutiny, I seem to be heavily linked with that position, which again is disappointing and not something I enjoy."

"A decision to move anywhere, whether it is interstate or overseas, is not taken lightly and naturally needed to be discussed at length with my family, who always come first."

"I have teenage children who are settled in their environment and I have done what any responsible husband and father would have done, which is to make sure that the right decision is made for them and that they are completely comfortable with that decision."

"Football is an unstable business and there are many things to consider before you uproot your family and expose them to that instability."

"This has been an entirely personal issue and I have had no problem whatsoever with the club as they fully understood my position throughout this process. I'm now looking forward to preparing our club for the seasons ahead and that work begins immediately."

Farina was appointed Roar coach in November after Miron Bleiberg resigned.
