FFA ends Postecoglou's time
7 February 2007 | 18:51 - AAP
Long-serving Australian under-17 and under-20 coach Ange Postecoglou has been axed after seven years in charge.
Football Federation Australia confirmed on Wednesday that Postecoglou's contract to coach the Joeys and Young Socceroos would not be renewed after it expired on February 5.
The FFA said an announcement about the future management of the two teams would be made after a review by new national technical director Rob Baan was completed.
Postecoglou, 41, guided the Joeys and Young Socceroos to the second stage of their respective world championships in 2001.
He was also in charge of the 2003 Young Socceroos side which beat eventual champion Brazil in the group stages.
But he had come under fire for subsequent failures of national under-17 and under-20 teams in world championships.
The under-20s' failure to qualify through the Asian championship late last year led to more calls for his head and a public on-air stoush with SBS television football analyst Craig Foster about whether Postecoglou should remain as coach.
