Byrnes released by Victory

A-League Champions Melbourne Victory have continued their post-season culling, with defender Mark Byrnes released.

Byrnes just missed out on selection for the Victory's Grand Final squad after playing a pivotal defensive midfield role in the major semi-final, first leg.

The 25-year-old was one of the Victory's inaugural signings two years ago, but despite playing 19 games has been deemed surplus to requirements.

He follows midfielder Michael Ferrante out of the club, with Socceroos defender Ljubo Milicevic and Young Socceroos goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak new additions in the past week.
