Adelaide United has signed former Melbourne Victory midfielder Kristian Sarkies on a one-year deal and agreed a new two-year deal with striker Bruce Djite.

Sarkies, 20, started just seven times for Melbourne last season – half the number he managed in season one of the A-League - and Adelaide United CEO Michael Petrillo says he is delighted the Reds have snapped up the highly-rated Olyroo.

"We are very happy that Kristian has agreed to terms. We look forward to seeing Kristian developing his potential at our club and we're sure that he will add an exciting and skilful dimension to our team and is certain to be a crowd pleaser," Petrillo said.

"He is another piece of our objective to revitalise our playing group with young and exciting players."

Adelaide also announced that another highly-rated youngster, striker Djite, will stay with the club.

"He (Djite) is one of Australia's best young talents and along with (Nathan) Burns and (Kristian) Sarkies, we have been able to add youthful energy and quality for this season and beyond," Petrillo said.

Djite, who has just turned 20, was born in Washington DC but moved to Sydney when he was three.

"I'm thrilled to have signed. It's good to be able to focus solely on football now and I'm looking forward to spending time on the park and scoring plenty of goals for Adelaide United," Djite said.
